LK: “ 'Begin the Fall' started as a Tele/ Vox AC-30 Tremolo picking part which was very hypnotic, and I had the lyrics and vocal melody right from the beginning. As the song developed in the studio at Southern Tracks, the bass line started to move into a dub-reggae style, because I was playing my Fender Jazz fretless bass. Robert is also very comfortable with a slight Reggae feel, so it was very natural for him on the drums. Jeff played a Toy Piano melody that became a second hook, and that part really made it all start to work, so I reinforced it on my Silvertone Air Organ. Our Recording Engineer Steven Morrison really brought a lot of magic to this, as we created our "Dub Bucket" on the SSL Console during Mixing, and he transformed himself into Lee "Scratch" Perry! He played a lot of guitars on the song, as well as manually flanging the Studer Tape Machines to give us some bong air at the end of the track!"
lyrics
BEGIN THE FALL
Begin the Beginning
Then Begin the Fall
Begin the Beginning
Then Begin the Fall
Sometimes I don't want to
Talk at all
No not at all
Well they all tell me
Babe, your gonna fall
Yeah they all tell me
You don't care at all
But they don't touch you-
They don't
Haven't held you, not at all
No, not at all
Begin the Beginning
Then Begin the Fall
Begin the Beginning
Then Begin the Fall
Sometimes I don't want to
Talk at all
